KABUL (Pajhwok): Mines and Petroleum Minister Daud Shah Saba on Saturday said an advisory council to manage Afghanistan’s mineral resources had been created, as he hoped the launch date of the TAPI gas pipeline project would be decided in two months.
Saba, who attended the TAPI (Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India) steering committee meeting in Islamabad three days ago, was talking to reporters in Kabul.
KABUL (Pajhwok): In a latest development, Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) pledged on Wednesday to expedite the comencement process of the stalled gas pipeline project in the region, media reports said.
The Pakistani dawn.com reported that the agreement emerged during a high-level meeting chaired by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif which was attended by the ministers from TAPI member states.
During the course of meeting, it was decided that a consortium leader would soon be finalised for the project’s immediate commencement.

Saba will represent Afghanistan in the 20th meeting of the kind on the $10 billion nearly 1,800-km-long proposed pipeline project that aims to export up to 33 billion cubic meters (bcm) of natural gas per year and integrate economies of the four partnering nations.
WASHINGTON (Pajhwok): The United States has urged Turkmenistan, Afghanistan, Pakistan and India to engage an international energy company to take forward the ambitious TAPI gas pipeline project that has the potential to transform the entire region.
“We encourage the TAPI parties to bring an international energy company into the project to work in cooperation with Turkmengaz in the development of the gas supply and serve as commercial champion for the project,” a State Department spokesperson told Pajhwok Afghan News.
KABUL (Pajhwok): Afghanistan, Pakistan, India and Turkmenistan on Friday signed an operational agreement on an ambition gas pipeline project in Islamabad, a private TV channel reported.
The 700 kilometres Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) pipeline will carry gas from the natural resource-rich former Soviet state to the energy-starved South Asian countries.
Turkmenistan is one of the rich Central Asian States in terms of natural gas reservoirs. In 1989, Turkmenistan offered extension of its natural gas to the Asia market via Afghanistan, Pakistan and subsequently to India.
The Unocal cooperation situated in California, working in extraction of oil and gas in other parts of the world also hinted at investment in the project.
KABUL (PAN): The Transaction Advisory Services Agreement (TASA) for a multibillion dollars gas pipeline -- stretching from Turkmenistan through Afghanistan to Pakistan and India -- would be signed in a couple of days, a report said on Tuesday.
The accord would be inked at a two-day meeting, slated for Nov. 20-21 in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan's capital, The News International reported. Representatives of all stakeholders will attend the meeting.
KABUL (PAN): The Asian Development Bank (ADB) said on Wednesday renewed its long-term commitment to Afghanistan’s economic development beyond 2014, when all combat troops are scheduled to leave the country.
“The transformation decade is a challenging yet rewarding period for Afghanistan to stand on its own feet through engaging in infrastructure development and supporting regional cooperation,” said ADB Country Director Joji Tokeshi.
WASHINGTON (PAN): Continuing to push for the ambitious gas pipeline crisscrossing Turkmenistan, Afghanistan, Pakistan and India, the United States has said it would lead to regional development.
“Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India gas pipeline, or TAPI, which stands to bring enormous energy relief to a region still saddled with aging coal generation facilities and inefficient power generation methods,” Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asia Robert Blake said.
KABUL (PAN): India has reiterated its strong commitment to the execution of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline project by 2017, a media report said on Wednesday.
President Parnab Mukherjee held out the commitment at a meeting with Turkmenistan’s Deputy Prime Minister Rashid Meredov in New Delhi, the Times of India reported.
