Partners agree to give TAPI project final push

KABUL (Pajhwok): In a latest development, Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) pledged on Wednesday to expedite the comencement process of the stalled gas pipeline project in the region, media reports said.

The Pakistani dawn.com reported that the agreement emerged during a high-level meeting chaired by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif which was attended by the ministers from TAPI member states.

During the course of meeting, it was decided that a consortium leader would soon be finalised for the project’s immediate commencement.

Shahrani hints at major mining deals

KABUL (PAN): Minister of Mines Wahidullah Shahrani has said negotiations with Australia were underway on the next phase of helping Afghanistan develop its mining industry and tap into mineral and energy reserves.

An official at the ministry said that Shahrani, at the head of a delegation, had reached Australia to attend a mining development conference there next week.

4 pacts to be signed with India during Karzai visit

KABUL (PAN): Afghanistan and India are expected to sign four agreements, including one in the mining sector, during President Hamid Karzai’s visit to New Delhi, a diplomat said.

During his four-day trip, beginning from November 9, Karzai and Indian leaders will also ponder over a greater role for New Delhi in training Afghan security forces.

Delhi investment meet on Afghanistan kicks off

KABUL (PAN):  The Delhi Investment Summit on Afghanistan kicked off in the Indian capital on Thursday, largely to woo foreign investors to explore trade opportunities in the Central Asian nation.

Delegates from some 40 countries are expected to participate in the meeting, where investors would be briefed on business climate, investment overview and Afghan’s economic growth story.     

Traders asked not to import low-quality fuels

KABUL (PAN): President Hamid Karzai has asked Afghan traders to avoid importing low-quality fuel and gas that cause pollution in the country.

During a biweekly address to the nation on Friday night, Karzai said air pollution created respiratory problems and other health hazards to women, children and old men.
