KABUL (Pajhwok): Mines and Petroleum Minister Daud Shah Saba on Saturday said an advisory council to manage Afghanistan’s mineral resources had been created, as he hoped the launch date of the TAPI gas pipeline project would be decided in two months.
Saba, who attended the TAPI (Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India) steering committee meeting in Islamabad three days ago, was talking to reporters in Kabul.
KABUL (Pajhwok): Mines and Petroleum Minister Daud Shah Saba will be in the Pakistani capital Islamabad on Wednesday to participate in a steering committee meeting of a trans-Afghanistan multilateral energy project called TAPI (Turkmenistan, Afghanistan, Pakistan and India) pipeline.
Saba will represent Afghanistan in the 20th meeting of the kind on the $10 billion nearly 1,800-km-long proposed pipeline project that aims to export up to 33 billion cubic meters (bcm) of natural gas per year and integrate economies of the four partnering nations.
KABUL (Pajhwok): Leading economy experts have expressed optimism about the electricity transfer agreement CASA-1000 signed between Afghanistan and Pakistan on Sunday.
The Central Asia South Asia Electricity Transmission and Trade Project, known as CASA-1000, is aimed at transferring 1300 mega watt of electricity from the central Asian republic of Kyrgyzstan via Tajikistan to Afghanistan and onwards to Pakistan. Afghanistan is set to receive 300 MW while Pakistani would get a bulk of 1000 MW.
KABUL (Pajhwok): The Ministry of Commerce on Wednesday suspended the licence of Mahmood Jalil & MJ Energy on the charge of inflating bids for liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) imports from Turkmenistan
Musafar Qoqandi, the ministry’s spokesman, told a press conference in Kabul the issue had been referred to the Attorney General Office (AGO) for further investigation.
He alleged the two companies were responsible for rising the per ton price of LPG by $212. He said the Foreign Ministry had been informed of the licence suspension.
KABUL (PAN): The Ministry of Education on Sunday said it had launched efforts to add five professional courses to the education curriculum and establish as many institutes in this regard in Kabul.
The professions include mine extraction, railway tracks construction, food processing, carpet-weaving, hotelling and tourism, said RahimullahSamandar, the programme manager at the ministry.
KABUL (PAN): President Hamid Karzai has urged Qatari entrepreneurs to exploit the opportunities offered by his administration and invest in Afghanistan, his office said on Sunday.
In his interaction with Qatari traders, Karzai made a pitch for investments by businessmen from the oil-rich Gulf state, a statement from the Presidential Palace said.
KABUL (PAN): Da Afghanistan Bank (DAB) Governor Noorullah Delawari on Monday denied large shipments of gold from the country to the Persian Gulf, rejecting fear about a new way of money laundering.
Earlier in the week, the New York Times reported roughly hewed bars of gold were being flown out of Kabul with increasing regularity. “Most of the gold is being carried on commercial flights destined for Dubai.”

KABUL (PAN): President Hamid Karzai, asserting his government’s respect for democratic norms, on Tuesday asked his political opponents to avoid actions that harmed Afghanistan’s national interest.
Governments around the globe had political foes who worked within the framework of different parties, Karzai told a news conference at the Presidential Palace in Kabul. However, he said opposition and ruling parties remained on the same page on issues of national importance.
