KABUL (Pajhwok): The Ministry of Commerce on Wednesday suspended the licence of Mahmood Jalil & MJ Energy on the charge of inflating bids for liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) imports from Turkmenistan
Musafar Qoqandi, the ministry’s spokesman, told a press conference in Kabul the issue had been referred to the Attorney General Office (AGO) for further investigation.
He alleged the two companies were responsible for rising the per ton price of LPG by $212. He said the Foreign Ministry had been informed of the licence suspension.
The action has left the two companies, which are said to be among the top 10 in Afghanistan, unable to import gas. Pajhwok Afghan News did try to approach the firms for comments but did not succeed.
Khan Jan Alokozai, vice-present of the Afghanistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry, acknowledged that Mahmood Jalil & MJ Energy were leading oil and gas importers. He supported the ministry’s action.
The official price of one kilogram of LPG is 60 afs but in most parts of the metropolis it is sold for 70 afs.
