Feasibility study on TAPI gas pipeline completed: Shahrani

KABUL (PAN): A feasibility study on laying the multibillion-dollar Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline has been completed and work on the project's design to finish this year, the mines minister said on Monday.

An agreement of the project was signed by the presidents of Afghanistan, Pakistan, India and Turkmenistan in 2010.

The pipeline would be able to deliver 34 billion cubic-metre gas annually and would be officially inaugurated in 2016.

Afghanistan to sign gas deal with Turkmenistan

KABUL (PAN): A gas agreement will be signed among Turkmenistan, Afghanistan, India and Pakistan in Ashgabat, the capital of Turkmenistan, in the near future, President Hamid Karzai's said on Monday.

A statement from the Presidential Palace in Kabul said Karzai met BayramgeldiNedirov, the Turkmen energy minister, late on Monday.

Nedirov said a meeting would soon take place in Ashgabat on inking the agreement, the statement said.

Turkmenistan to increase power export to Afghanistan

KABUL (PAN): Turkmenistan has agreed to considerably increase the export of electricity to Afghanistan, the Presidential Palace in Kabul said on Sunday.

Currently on a visit to the neighbouring country, President Hamid Karzai signed four agreements with his Turkmen counterpart, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.

The agreements envisage power, railway, cultural and trade cooperation. The Turkmen president said his country wanted a stable and prosperous Afghanistan.

Analysts: TAPI pipeline will have positive effects on security

KABUL (PAN): The new gas pipeline from Turkmenistan through Afghanistan to Pakistan and India will have positive impact not only on the economy of the region, but also on security, analysts say. 

 After over 15 years on the drawing-board, the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline project was approved by the four countries’ leaders in Ashgabat on Dec. 12, 2010.

WASHINGTON (PAN): The United States has given its backing to a gas pipeline running through Turkmenistan, Afghanistan, Pakistan and India, that has been delayed for years due to security concerns.

"TAPI pipeline could bring significant economic and political benefits to the region, a senior Obama administration official said.

A delegation from Turkmenistan has been in Pakistan and will head to Kabul on Sunday for discussions about reviving the 1,700 kilometre pipeline, first proposed in 1995.

Gas pipeline deal in October

KABUL (PAN): A deal to lay a pipeline taking gas from Turkmenistan to Pakistan and India through Afghanistan is expected to be signed in October this year, officials said on Thursday.

A spokesman for the Ministry of Mines, Jawad Omar, said the deal would be signed among mine ministers of Afghanistan, Pakistan, India and Turkmenistan.
