Major gas reserves found in Faryab

MAIMANA (PAN): Minister of Mines Wahidullah Shahrani on Sunday said a major natural gas reserves had been found in the Andkhoi district of northern Faryab province.  

Shahrani, who arrived in the district, said a 75-day survey that was recently carried out by the government at a cost of $7 million (369.9 million afghanis), indicated the gas deposits.  

China eyes gas pipeline via Afghanistan

KABUL (PAN): Beijing wants to build a pipeline transporting natural gas to China from Turkmenistan via Tajikistan and Afghanistan, the Presidential Palace said on Wednesday.

State-run China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) Chairman Jiang Jiemin referred to the plan during a meeting with President Hamid Karzai on the sidelines of the 12th Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit in Beijing on Wednesday.

Canadian firm to assess Faryab oil reserves

KABUL (PAN): A Canadian firm would ascertain the level of oil reserves in areas between the Aqina dry port and Andkhoi district in northern Faryab province over the next three months, officials said on Tuesday.An agreement to the effect was inked between Minister of Mines Waheedullah Shahrani and John, the head of a Canadian oil exploration company, known as Terasize Limited, in the capital Kabul.Under the $6.5 million project, the Canadian firm will search fuel reserves in a 236 square kilometres area in a region believed

Private firms issued fuel import licences

KABUL (PAN): The Ministry of Commerce and Industries had issued fuel import licences to some private firms to meet public demand and stem the influx of substandard supplies to the market, a Cabinet minister said on Wednesday. 

"Currently, 60,000 companies import fuel to the country, with 60 of them supplying substandard oil to consumers," Commerce and Industries Minister Anwarul Haq Ahadi told reporters in Kabul.

Gas well inaugurated in Shiberghan

SHIBERGHAN (PAN): A gas well, having the capacity to produce 5,000 cubic metres of gas in 24 hours, was inaugurated in northern Jawzjan province, officials said on Sunday.

Gas supply from the well would run a chemical fertiliser factory in neighbouring Balkh province, said the Afghan Gas Enterprise head, Eng. Abdul Hameed.

He told Pajhwok Afghan News: "We have decided to reconstruct the whole gas distribution system in Shiberghan, the provincial capital."

Afghanistan to become self-sufficient in fuel by 2015

KABUL (PAN): Mines Minister Wahidullah Shahrani on Sunday said Afghanistan would not only become self-sufficient in fuel production, but would also export it to other countries by 2015.

Currently Afghanistan imports three billion tonnes of fuel.

10,000 tonnes of gas set to reach Kabul

KABUL (PAN): The Ministry of Commerce and Industries on Monday said it had purchased 10,000 tonnes of liquefied gas which would be available in Kabul utility stores for 55 afghanis a kilogram and 60afs in private stores.

3,000 tonnes of gas hoarded at Hairatan Port: Ahadi

KABUL (PAN): Following reports of gas hoarding by traders, the government has sent a delegation to the Hairatan to resolve the problem as soon as possible, the minister of commerce and industries said on Monday.

Last week, the ministry fixed at 55 afghanis ($1.34) the price of one kilogram of gas, but the rate hovers between 80 and 100afs in the capital city. The price was fixed in consultation with representatives of traders. 

Fuel exploration contract soon: Shahrani

KABUL (PAN): The Ministry of Mines would sign a contract with international companies for fuel exploration in the Amu River Zone in northern Kunduz province, a senior official announced on Saturday.

Four of 11 international firms, which have shown interest in extraction, would be asked for documents to participate in the bidding process in the next one month and a half, the minister of mines said.

Ministry to extract fuel from Jawzjan, Sar-e-Pul mines

MAZAR-I-SHARIF (PAN): The Ministry of Mine intends to extract gas and fuel from mines in Jawzjan and Sar-e-Pul Northern provinces in the near future.

Eng. Chaman Shah Ahmadi, advisor to Ministry of Mines told a gathering on Monday conducted to talk about the mines.  He informed the Ministry has inked contract of extraction of some mines with foreign NGO.

He said the Yatim Taq gas wells and Jerqadaq gas and mine of Jawzjan province will be explored and extracted by US company.
