KABUL (Pajhwok): Some Meshrano Jirga members on Sunday complained against high prices of petroleum products and said the rates should be decreased in line with international market trends.
Senator Hidayatullah Rihaee from central Bamyan province told the upper house that oil prices had drastically fallen in all markets of the world, but the products were sold for the same old prices in Afghanistan, registering no change. “No change is observed in fares of transport vehicles and airlines,” the lawmaker said.

KABUL (Pajhwok): Rejecting corruption in contracts, Mines Minister Mohammad Akbar Barakzai on Sunday said insecurity had blocked investments by foreign firms to develop the sector.
He was testifying before the Meshrano Jirga after being summoned to brief lawmakers about the situation of mining activities in the country.
KABUL (Pajhwok): A delegation of Wolesi Jirga, investigating the torching of hundreds of fuel tankers, said on Monday some security and supply officials were linked to the arson attack.
But the Ministry of Interior (MoI) denied the involvement of security personnel in setting on fire the oil tankers. It said an investigation report on the issue had also been shared with the Attorney General Office.
KABUL (Pajhwok): The Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI) on Thursday linked high gas prices to its smuggling to Pakistan, saying the petroleum and gas department had lost $57 million in revenue as a result.
ACCI official Faridullah Sherzai told a news conference some people within the government misused their positions and damage the economy by facilitating gas smuggling to the neighbouring country.
