SHIBERGHAN (PAN): German Counsel General Karl Lieberman based in northern Balkh province on Monday paid a visit to the gas fields in Shiberghan, the capital of Jawzjan province, indicating his country’s willingness for investment.
Governor Murad Quenili told Pajhwok Afghan News the German diplomat was accompanied by delegation of experts from his country. They visited the Jaraq Doq gas fields to assess the deposits and explore investment opportunities, the governor said.
PUL-I-ALAM (PAN): The Ministry of Mines and Petroleum has intentionally paved the ground for illegal mining and smuggling of chromite in central Logar province, officials alleged on Wednesday.
Chromite is an industrially important mineral for the production of metallic chromium, used as an alloying ingredient in stainless and tool steels, as well as a refractory material, because it has high heat stability.
KANDAHAR (PAN): A large number of separate groups of people have started illegally excavating stucco and chalk in huge quantity in Daman district of southern Kandahar province, with the government doing nothing to prevent the looting, an official said Saturday.
Eng. Mohammad Sadiq, provincial mining control chief, told Pajhwok Afghan News the mines in northern parts of Daman produced around 22,242 cubic metres stucco a year.
PUL-I-KHUMRI (PAN): Officials say they are concerned about the safety of dwellers of a controversial township located near coalmines in northern Baghlan province.
Nearly 1,900 residential houses have been constructed in the township spread on 5,000 acres of land near the coalmine in the Kakar Valley, 15 km northeast of Pul-i-Khumri -- the provincial capital.
The provincial mines and environment protection departments have not been consulted on the township’s construction.
KABUL (PAN): A three-day international conference on ‘Doing Business with Afghanistan’ and an exhibition of Afghan products are set to get under way simultaneously in New Delhi on Monday (today), organisers said.
The event includes a high-level interactive ministerial segment, panel discussions on sector-specific issues covering mining, energy, agriculture and food processing, infrastructure, logistics and select services.
KABUL (PAN): The Ministry of Education on Sunday said it had launched efforts to add five professional courses to the education curriculum and establish as many institutes in this regard in Kabul.
The professions include mine extraction, railway tracks construction, food processing, carpet-weaving, hotelling and tourism, said RahimullahSamandar, the programme manager at the ministry.
KABUL (PAN): Afghanistan and Kazakhstan on Tuesday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on strengthening cooperation in commerce and other sectors.
The MoU on cooperation in transit, trade, education and agriculture was signed between Minister of Commerce and Industries Anwarul Haq Ahadi and Kazakhstan’s Emergency Situations Minister Vladimir Bozhko.

KABUL (PAN): A $50 million grant agreement, aimed at promoting economic growth and fiscal sustainability, was signed between the Ministry of Finance and the World Bank here on Wednesday.
The grant -- the Development Policy Programmatic Series: Promoting Economic Growth and Fiscal Sustainability -- is being provided by the International Development Association (IDA), the World Bank’s concessional lending arm.
KABUL (PAN): At its second meeting, the Afghan-Russian Joint Economic Commission (JEC) pledged cooperation between the two countries in different spheres, officials said on Tuesday.
The two countries signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on facilitating Afghan and foreign airlines to start flights between Kabul and Moscow.
