SHIBERGHAN (Pajhwok): Around 118 graduates from the geology and mine faculty of Jawzjan University are worried about their future, an official said on Wednesday.
Eng. Mohammad Hashim, chancellor of Jawzjan University, said it was the 12th batch of gradates. About 118 students including 40 females graduated from geology and mines faculty today.
The graduates were of the view that getting jobs in the prevailing circumstances was difficult, because government and private sectors did not have enough for them, they added.
KABUL (Pajhwok): Pakistan and Tajikistan have reached an understanding on the price of electricity under the Central Asia-South Asia (CASA) 1,000 project, a media report said on Tuesday.
Supported by the United States and the World Bank, which has approved millions of dollars for the programme, the project will easing energy shortages in Pakistan and utilise surplus power in Tajikistan.
KABUL (Pajhwok): Iranian authorities have been excavating iron mine located in the border area between the two countries in western Herat Province, an official said.
Farid Ahmad Ziartujai, administrative chief of the district, told Pajhwok Afghan News the mine resources were located in the Chab and Cha Shor localities of the district.
Iran had completed the mining work on its side, he said, adding, that since few years the neighboring country continued underground excavation of iron in Afghanistan territory.
KABUL (Pajhwok): Due to negligence on the part of the Ministry of Mines and Petroleum, a large portion of marble is lost during mining in western Herat province, local officials say.
The marble mine in Chasht-i-Sharif district is the country’s largest and of best quality, but it is excavated unprofessionally with the help of heavy machinery and explosives.
As a result, 50 percent of the marble extracted is lost or badly damaged. Governor FazlullahWahidi said Herat has multiple mineral deposits, including precious and semi-precious stones.
TALOQAN (Pajhwok): The industry of coppersmith is on the verge of collapse in northern Takhar province, locals said.
Coppersmiths say their business is on downward trend as compared to the past and they are unable to get advantage from this industry.
Abdullah, 40, a worker and shopkeeper in Nilgri Street of Taloqan City, told Pajhwok Afghan News six persons has worked with him at the shop ten years earlier, but now nobody was willing to work in this field due to low income.
KABUL (Pajhwok): Excavation of the country’s largest coalmine in northern Samangan province was underway in an unregulated way since long, an official said on Tuesday.
This coal reserves is situated 117 kilometres to the west of Aibak City, the provincial capital in the Dara-i-Suf district. The mine has rich coals quality coals where 300 tunnels had been dug so far.
The government has some control on five tunnels while the rests are managed by locals in an illegal way.
KABUL (Pajhwok): An official of oil refinery in western Herat province alleged authorities do not allow them to refine crude oil despite the capability they have of active refinery.
Officials said the refinery was constructed at a cost of $30 million which was inaugurated three months back by Afghan businessmen in the Kamar Kulag locality of Herat City.
KABUL (Pajhwok): Northern and eastern parts of Afghanistan have abundant reserves of tourmaline -- locally known as Bairoch -- but the government has been unable to formally control them or award contract for their extraction, an official said.
The Ministry of Mines and Petroleum spokesman confirmed the existence of tourmaline in Panjsher, Badakhshan, Nuristan and other areas. Mohammad Rafi RafiqueSadiqi told Pajhwok Afghan News: “We need more work to explore and identify the areas with tourmaline reserves.”
KABUL (Pajhwok): Imported jewellery with fake precious stones has brought down the market value of locally-made ornaments, experts and businesspeople say. Given their lustre and artistic designs, foreign jewellery is all the go in Afghanistan.
Shopkeepers in Kabul acknowledge original and locally-produced precious stones have taken a back seat to the sham varieties. Goldsmith Amanullah said most customers preferred foreign trinkets and a large mummer of aliens dominated the local market.
KABUL (Pajhwok): President Hamid Karzai and his cabinet had ordered twice to assess oil refinery process and stop importing of premagon--- low-quality fuel materials--- in the country but that orders would be implemented yet.
A Russian word, premagon refers to the unrefined crude oil that is blamed for environmental pollution.
