Revenue from mines to reach $1.5b in 5 years: Shahrani

KABUL (PAN): Afghanistan's annual income from mines would reach $1.5 billion (69 billion afghanis) in five years and $3.5 billion after a decade and half, a cabinet minister told Parliament on Tuesday.

The Ministry of Mines has framed a policy to increase the annual revenue from extraction of mines, WahidullahShahrani told senators. The policy will be presented to the Cabinet next month.

Samangan coalmine revenue sees major boost

AIBAK (PAN): A three-fold increase has been registered in revenues from the Dara-i-Sauf coalmine in northern Samangan province, compared to last year's income, officials said on Sunday.

Head of the coal mine enterprises, Eng, Abdul Aziz Mubin, told Pajhwok Afghan News the income in 2009 was more than 102 million afghanis. However, he said, the income increased to 300 million afghanis this year.

Govt revenue to jump by $1bn in five years, says minister

KABUL (PAN): The mining industry will help increase the annual revenue of the government to more than a billion dollars over the next five years, a remarkable swell from the current $25m, the minister of mines said on Saturday.

Addressing representatives of civil society organisations in Kabul, Wahidullah Shahrani said his ministry estimated mining projects would create about 200,000 job opportunities in five to seven years.
