Pakistanis smuggling Helmand marbles

LASHKARGAH (PAN): Carpentry and marble factory officials on Tuesday alleged that marbles were being smuggled from southern Helmand province and mines there destroyed by Pakistanis.

The Pakistanis had long been smuggling marble and damaging the mines through explosions and airstrikes in Deshu district, Rokham Marble Factory head Mohammad Lal Kargar told Pajhwok Afghan News.

Logar chromites being smuggled abroad

PUL-I-ALAM (PAN): Chromites mines are being dug up unprofessionally by people in central Logar province, Minister of Mines Wahidullah Shahrani said on Monday.  

Addressing the inaugural ceremony for the mines department’s new building in Pul-i-Alam, the minister said the chromites were smuggled abroad.

But construction of the department’s new building would help improve its performance, including monitoring of the mines, Shahrani added.

Draft policy on mines to be okayed soon

KABUL (PAN): Bids from international investors for the development of a lithium mine in western Herat province would be called after a draft policy on mine exploration and extraction is approved by the Cabinet, an official said on Tuesday.

New strategy on mineral revenue soon

KABUL (PAN): A "useful strategy" on the utilisation of mineral revenue is being evolved and would be presented to the Cabinet for approval in the near future, officials said on Thursday.

Mines minister Wahidullah Shahrani in an exclusive interview with Pajhwok Afghan News said the strategy had been recommended by President Hamid Karzai and was jointly being repapered by the ministries of mines and finance.

British investors briefed on gold, copper mines

KABUL (PAN): In an effort to attract international investment, Minister of Mines WahidullahShahrani briefed entrepreneurs on Afghanistan's vast gold and copper reserves, an official said on Wednesday.

During his trip to Britain, Shahrani spoke about two gold mines in Badakhshan and Ghazni provinces and copper in Sar-i-Pul and Herat, ministry spokesman, Mohammad Jawad Omar, told Pajhwok Afghan News.

Mineral resources seen as a boost to Afghan economy

WASHINGTON (PAN): The vast mineral resources of Afghanistan, now mapped by the US Geological Survey, could transform the country's war-tattered economy, an American official said on Thursday.

"The mineral resources in Afghanistan have the potential to completely transform the nation's economy," said Regina Dubey, acting director of the Department of Defense’ Task Force for Business and Stability Operations (TFBSO).

حدود ٥٠ ُتن سنگ قيمتى به دست آمد

گرديز (پژواک، ١٩جدى ٨٩): حدود٥٠ ُتن سنگ قيمتى که بطور قاچاقى از يک معدن لوگر استخراج شده بود، در ولسوالى وزى ځدران ولايت پکتيا، به دست آمد.

جنرال عبدالغفار صافى قوماندان امنيۀ پکتيا، به تاريخ ١٩جدى به آژانس خبرى پژواک گفت که اين سنگ، در چهار عراده لارى بار شده بود.

به گفتۀ وى، شش تن به اين ارتباط دستگير شده و تحت تحقيق قرار دارند.

قوماندان امنيه، گرچه در مورد اين واقعه معلومات بيشتر نداد؛ اما افزود که اين سنگ نوع کرومايت، از ولسوالى خروار لوگر آورده شده و پلان بود تا از راه خوست، به پاکستان قاچاق شود.
