Mineral resources of Kunduz province

KONDUZ (Pajhwok): Officials said that several mines of natural reservoirs such as petroleum, phosphorus and oxy acetylenehad been existed northern Kunduz province but their extraction could not yet start due to the reasons best known to high authorities.

Bordering Tajikistan, Kunduzhad six mines with most famous petroleum, phosphorus, oxy acetylene, stucco and stones that were being used for construction purposes.

According to local authorities, phosphorus and oxy acetylenemines had not been extracted yet,saying that its extraction would usher an era of progress and development in the country.

However, few mines were being utilized for construction purposes but they were not of importance or generate any big revenue.

  1. Chahar Dara petroleum mine:

The mine is located in KoritawIrganaklocality of Chahardara districtdiscovered and surveyed by the US satellite some three years ago. However, more details are not available about the mine.

  1. Khan Abad petroleum mine:

The mine is located in Irjal area of Khan Abad district discovered in 1972 by Afghan-Soviet Unionexperts. More than 2,000 metreswere drilled inside the earth that time. However, there is no information about further work on the mine.

Studies show huge reservoirs of petroleum existed in Badghis, Herat, Jawzjan,Kunduz, Taloqan, Mazar-e-Sharif, Sar-i-Pul and Faryabprovinces and other areas.

  1. Phosphorus mine:

The mine is situated in KisaTopak area of Ali Abad district discovered in 2001. The mine had been extractedby several without any government authorization. However, it could not be confirmed about the nature of mine.

  1. Oxy acetylenemine:

The mine is located in Koritaw area of Chahar Dara district and discovered during Dawood Khan regime. Since then, there is no more information about the mine.

  1. Stucco mine:

The mine is situated in Kortawi area of Cha Hardara district with a contract was signed with a private companyin 2013 for the period of one year. The company pays 450,000 afghanison extraction of 1,000 tons stucco.

6-Construction mine:

The mines are located in Qara Bator andIrganak, and Juma Bazaar of Chahar Dara district.The minesare extracted by several groups and the government levy tax ranging from 50 to 150 afghanisper truck.

7-Sand and gravel mines:

The mines are located in Khan Abad, Dasht-e-Archi and Chahar Dara districtson the outskirts of Kunduz city. Its contract was inked with construction companies for a period of one year. The government leys tax ranging from 350,000, to 400,000 afghanisfrom contractors per annum.
