Clinton, Krishna discuss TAPI project

Category:

WASHINGTON (PAN): US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and her Indian counterpart SM Krishna on Monday reviewed the recently-concluded Afghan-US-India trilateral dialogue and an ambitious gas pipeline project.

“Secretary Clinton and Foreign Minister Krishna reviewed last week’s US-Afghanistan-India trilateral dialogue and discussed regional economic integration projects, including the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) pipeline,” an official said.

The State Department official told Pajhwok Afghan News after the meeting the two leaders held a positive discussion on a broad range of bilateral and regional issues.

Earlier in his address to the UN General Assembly in New York, Krishna said India supported the government and people of Afghanistan in their endeavor to build a peaceful, stable, democratic and prosperous country.

“We are ready to partner with the Afghan people as they rebuild their country in accordance with their own priorities and national circumstances. The continuing existence of safe havens and sanctuaries for terrorists beyond Afghanistan’s borders is the major impediment to the restoration of peace and security in Afghanistan,” he remarked.
