2 coalminers asphyxiated to death

PUL-I-KHUMRI (Pajhwok): Two people were killed and a third became unconscious after inhaling the carbon monoxide gas inside a coal mine in northern Baghlan province, an official said on Tuesday.

Abdul SattarAtif, the Nahrain district chief, told Pajhwok Afghan News the three men were excavating coal from the Chinarak Mine when the incident occurred. The dead were brothers.

Eng. Abdur Rahman Afghan, coal enterprise head in the north, said the Ministry of Mine and Petroleum was duty-bound to take necessary measure for the protection of workers.

Mineral resources of Baghlan province

PUL-I-KHUMRY (PAN): Located in northeast of the country, Baghlan is considered an impassable province of the country, which is rich in precious underground reserves.

Natural resources, in particular coalmines of Baghlan have greater fame, which are widely used by locals and exported to neighboring Pakistan too.

Karkar, Dodkash, Ahan Dara, Khurd Dara, Chinarak, Shin Dara, Alogak, Tala war and Barfak are among coalmines, which are being extracted in a non professional way by local groups, damaging most of the precious items.

Coalmine revenue goes up by 20pc

PUL-I-KHUMRI (PAN): The revenue of northern Baghlan and Samangan provinces from coalmines stood at 1.8 billion afghanis in 2013, indicating a 20 percent hike, an official said on Saturday.

The income from coalmines was 1.453 billion afghanis in 2012, said Eng. Abdul Khaliq Tasmim, the Northern Afghan Coal Enterprise head.

He said a total of 1.214 million tonnes of coal was extracted from Dara-i-Sauf, Roee Duab and Tala Wa Barfak mines in Samangan and Baghlan provinces in 2013.

Baghlan truckers rally against bribery

PUL-I-KHUMRI (PAN): Truck drivers on Monday staged a protest demonstration against extortions by private armed militias and Afghan Local Police (ALP) personnel in northern Baghlan province.

About 200 truck drivers took part in the protest in Pul-i-Khumri, the provincial capital, accusing mines department officials of demanding bribes from them. They warned of permanently parking their vehicles if their problem was not resolved.
