Three guards of copper mine killed in Logar

PUL-I-ALAM (PAN): Three guards of the copper mine in central Logar province were killed and two more injured after a remote controlled bomb hit their vehicle here.

Muhammad Abid Jan, Crimes Investigation Department officer of Logar police headquarters told Pajhwok Afghan News the blast at around 4pm in Zahid Abad area of Mis-Ainak region hit vehicle of the special security unit assigned with guarding the mine, which is counted as one of the biggest copper mines around the globe.

Karzai, MCC head talk mine project

KABUL (PAN): President Hamid Karzai met with director of the Chinese Minnesota Control Company (MCC) on the development of the Miss Ainak Copper Mine Project.

The mine has been leased out to the giant Chinese company. A statement from the Presidential Office said MCC Director Wang Daho assured the president they would make utmost efforts to explore the worlds biggest copper mine in a professional and efficient manner, the statement added.

Contract for Logar copper mine inked in Kabul

KABUL (PAN): The contract to extract Logar province Ainak copper mine was inked between Afghan government and a Chinese private company Minnesota Control Company (MCC) in Kabul on Sunday.

The Ainak copper mine was put to bid last year and MCC was announced winner in auction among 9 companies.

According to officials of mine ministries the Ainak copper mine located in 30 km southeast of Kabul in Logar province has over 12 million tons copper which is one of the biggest mine in the world.

Khak-i-Jabar residents seek share in mine project proceeds

KABUL, Jan 15 (PAN): Promising to help the government maintain security, residents of the Khak-i-Jabar district of Kabul have asked the Ministry of Mines for their share in income from the Ainak copper project.

The demand came as 50 tribal elders from the district met the minister concerned in the presence of legislators and provincial council members. Haji Muhammad Rafiq, speaking on behalf of the elders, said they were very disappointed to learn of development plans - to be financed with proceeds from the mine - for the central Logar province.
